Here's my first attempt at making Arm armor
| I got my pattern from Craig Nadler's Early-15th Century Italian style Arm
harnesses site. I had some steel from last year, so I cut it
out. It took an hour to cut the parts
|
Since it's got to be easier to clean things up while they're flat, I
used my fine wire brush to de-rust the parts.
|
| I had to use some 60 grit sandpaper to get the black oxidation off,
too. It took an hour to do the preliminary cleaning
|
I want to raise the elbow piece so it's a better fit. I drew in
the lines and started raising
|
| I'm a poor raiser. It's probably the stake I'm using along with my
poor skillset. Re-reading Making of: Late 14th century Armour,
I see you start by dishing the piece.
|
Dishing is much easier, but doesn't make as smooth a finished
piece. It probably took a couple hours to do this
|
| I fluted in a center line, which went much better
than I expected. The second elbow went much faster. Did it in an
hour.
